My name is Laura Marzen, and I’m passionate about developing recipes that are delicious, satisfying, and don’t require a culinary degree to execute successfully. I love teaching people about food and cooking through the food videos I’ve appeared in. Writing about food and nutrition, by delving into every aspect of a topic and condensing it down to a final version that’s not only easy to understand, but fun to read, motivating and empowering at the same time is also very satisfying to me. While I am a Registered, Licensed Dietitian, I value all foods as part of a healthful diet, and am able to develop any type of recipe, from nutrition-packed salads to decadent desserts and anything in between. I started my freelance recipe development, video, and writing business, Fresh Food Bites, in 2010, and since then have developed over 600 published recipes for a variety of magazines, cookbooks and websites, have appeared in many food demo videos, and have written articles for several magazines. I also blog at Check out my bio page for more details about me, see my clients here, and look at some of the work I’ve done on my writing and recipe development portfolio pages.

Take a look at what a few of my clients say about my work:

“Laura came highly recommended by a colleague, and she quickly became one of my go-to recipe developers. She asks good questions, submits her work on time, follows direction, and most importantly, delivers creative, delicious, simple recipes I know our readers will love. She also has demonstrated a strong familiarity with the different convenience products on the market, a great asset when developing easy weeknight dinner recipes.”

Hannah Agran, Food and Features Editor, Midwest Living

“I’ve worked with Laura on several projects that required very specific parameters for recipe development, and she always came up with fresh, interesting, very tasty recipes that worked beautifully on one test—even when those criteria were quite limiting. Laura is extremely conscientious, thorough, organized and always meets deadlines, which helps me meet mine.”
